Young and old alike enjoy family movie night

There were so many people at the movie that we couldn't fitthem all in this camera shot! (Photos courtesy Sarah Chaney)
MONTEREY - They came from all around the county for a showing of "Bee Movie" (recently released on DVD) at the first ever Family Movie Night at the Highland County Public Library. Moms, dads, toddlers, elementary school students, middle school students and senior citizens snacked on popcorn, potato chips, candy and drinks during the show.

"I was thrilled with the turnout," said Tomi Herold, librarian, who plans another family movie night next month. This was one of many special events at the library during National Library Week. "The library was able to provide entertainment for over 40 people - and it cost us less to put on than what it would have cost a family of four to go to the movies at a regular theater," said Herold. There was an added extra bonus for kids who attended - three door prizes were raffledoff before the movie started.

The library has a wonderful audio/ video system and a big screen for the movie. "It seemed like a real movie theater," said Marshall Cornelius, a pre-school student at Highland Elementary. "The movie was funny and I liked the popcorn and candy, too." Marshall came with his parents and a couple of friends.
Erin Brendel won the big prize - her own DVD of "Bee Movie."
Cullen Bendel was one of the lucky winners of the raffle, which featured (what else?) Bee-themed prizes.
