Correction

Two Bath County High School 10th grade honor roll students' names were incorrectly listed in last week's paper as Drew and Ryan Newcomer. The correct names are Drew and Ryan Newmarker.

For last week's story, "9-1-1 gets busy signal," by Recorder staff writer Cynthia Coleman, Hot Springs Rescue Squad chief Michael Spurgeon clarifies the difference between a basic life support ambulance, such as the one in Millboro, and an advanced life support ambulance operated by Hot Springs Rescue Squad. All BLS ambulances are required by Virginia law to carry a defibrillator and members are certified to use them. The Millboro rescue squad's ambulance carries a defibrillator. An ALS ambulance has the capability of performing many advanced therapies such as advanced airway procedures and starting intravenous. Spurgeon said there are several drug therapies available to the ALS crew, such as a manually operated heart monitor/defibrillator to "visually see what the electrical conductions of the heart are doing." All patient care, both BLS and ALS, are based on established protocols. To add other emergency numbers nearby your telephone, use the following the sheriff's officenumbers: In Bath County: 540-839-2331; in Highland: 540-468-2210. The front of your telephone book also lists emergency numbers.

All errors in fact brought to our attention will be quickly and gladly corrected. Clarifications will also be made as needed. We will appreciate having inaccuracies brought to our attention. (540) 468-2147.
