Baptism, English minister couple highlight St. Luke's Sunday
 | | The Reverend Chris and Linda Jones |
| HOT SPRINGS - Two members of the Church of England will visit St. Luke's Episcopal Church this Sunday at the 11 a.m. service, which also features the baptism of the daughter of a longtime resident of Hot Springs and member of the parish.
The Rev. Chris Jones and his wife, Linda, are both highly engaged in ministry in the Diocese of Liverpool. After a career as an accountant, Mr. Jones was ordained in 1983, served in urban areas in London and Liverpool, and now is vicar of a market town called Ormskirk. Mrs. Jones, meanwhile, serves as team leader for the Church Growth Team in the Diocese of Liverpool which aims to create a missional culture that will equip and empower congregations for mission. She is a lay canon and member of the chapter, or governing body, of Liverpool's cathedral, represents her diocese in the Church of England's General Synod, and serves on various national groups relating to mission.
The Joneses are visiting Virginia as part of a sabbatical exploring relationships between politics and religion. This arises from the Rev. Jones' other assignment, which is that of "civic link officer"in which he builds relationships with local officials and looks at issues which are important to the church and to local governments.
At 10 a.m., the Joneses will meet with all who are interested in life and ministry in the Church of England. This will take the place of the regular Bible study, and will be held in the parish hall.
Mr. Jones will preach at the 11 a.m. service, which includes the baptism of Madeline Pippin Kling. She is the daughter of Capt. Joshua B.Kling, USMC, originally of Hot Springs, and his wife Christiane, and the granddaughter of Buddy and Bonnie Kling . Madeline's parents were married in St. Luke's.
The parish will honor Madeline and the Joneses with a luncheon, to which all are invited, immediately following the service.
