VCSB director resigns
STAUNTON - At its meeting on April 29, the Board of Directors of Valley Community Services Board voted to accept the resignation of W.J. Thomas, executive director.
Thomas joined the organization in 1986, became director in 1992, and under his leadership Valley Community Services Board has become an agency that employs 300 plus staff who directly provide or support the provision of community based mental health, mental retardation and substance abuse services to the communities of Staunton, Waynesboro, Augusta and Highland.
He spearheaded the consolidation of many of Valley Community Services Board's services and officesat a new facility at 85 Sangers Lane in Augusta County. He provided direction in implementation of the PACT program, the school based Day Treatment programs, Grandview ICF-MR and Greenville Group Home. Most recently, Thomas was key in the VCSB's entry into the provision of housing opportunities for consumers of many of our services.
On behalf of the board, James Mahoney, chair, acknowledged the strides Valley Community Services Board has made under Thomas's leadership and expressed the sincere thanks of the directors.
At its meeting the board appointed Brenda Sasser, currently Director of Mental Retardation Services, as acting director during the search process for a new executive director.
