Town council, mayor returned to office

MONTEREY - Longtime incumbent Janice Warner retained her seat as Monterey mayor following town elections Tuesday. Warner won with 32 votes.

Rich Holman received the next highest number, 5, followed by two for councilmen Sam Shell and Don Dowdy, and one vote each for Kelly Botkin, councilman Francis Fenn, and Roberta Lambert.

All incumbents for the six council seats were also returned to office.The highest number of votes went to Tony Stinnett, 38, followed closely by Sam Shell with 37; Don Dowdy, 36; Ronald Wimer, 34; Francis Fenn, 33; and Bill Niswander, 24.

Other votes for council included: Seven votes Mark Swecker, fivefor Rich Holman; Kelly Botking, Linda Holman and Jay Garger, 4; Mary Tate Swecker, 3; Janice Warner, 3; Roberta Lambert, 3; two votes each for Cody Cohen, John Flynn Jr., Warren Garber, Grady Gutshall, Laurie Nuttycombe, and Barbara Richards.

Each of the following received one vote: Anne Adams, Byron Adams, Joan Atkeson, Arlene Barton, Summer Cohen, Peggy Creef, Dan Dowdy, Carol Fenn, Jack Flynn, Pam Flynn, Larry Hough, Jim Jacenich, Jean McWhorter, Gregg Morse, Janice O'Reilly, Ronald Ralston, Randy Richardson, Tony Stinick, Garland Washer, Richard Waybright, Polly Wheless, Howard Whitlaw, and Fenn William.

All votes were cast as write-ins; no names appeared on the ballots.

If all those elected are willing to accept their seats, they will serve for two-year terms.
