STAUNTON - Richard Lee Griffin, 88, of Staunton, died Sunday, May 4, 2008 at his home.
He was born June 10, 1919 in Highland County, a son of the late John Robert and Alta Slayton Griffin.
Mr. Griffin served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2216. He had been employed by Stanley Furniture Co., formerly Basic-Witz. He was an avid NASCAR and baseball fan. He was preceded in death by brother, Walter L. Griffin; and fivesisters, Grace M. Griffin, Bertha E. Williams, Janet Grogg, Gertrude L. Johnson, and an infant sister, Delphie Mae Griffin.
He is survived by a daughter, Linda Griffin of Fulks Run; a son, Douglas L. Griffin of Harrisonburg, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 8, at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by the Rev. Donald Rose and the Rev. Mike Puffenbarger. Burial will be at Monterey Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be VFW Post No. 2216 members.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
