| MILLBORO - Work is nearing completion on a greenhouse being assembled on the Millboro Elementary School campus by Steve Halterman, science teacher for fifth, sixth and seventh grade.
"With our fall plant study, newly updated Nature Trail, pioneer garden by Ms. (Kim) Manion's fourth grade and many other plantrelated projects, I realized how valuable a greenhouse would be here at Millboro Elementary," said Halterman. "About a year ago, I wrote a grant proposal to fund a small greenhouse to be used by all our students. I would like to thank the Homestead Preserve for its generosity in funding this worthwhile project." He said the grant was for $2,000.
The greenhouse kit came in this winter and Halterman began the foundation and assembly in late March. Unfortunately, the inclement weather each weekend along with the lack of English instructions (the greenhouse was made in Sweden) slowed his progress somewhat. However, the frame and foundation are completed and the panels are being put in.
"I hope to have the greenhouse up and working before the end of school," he said this week.
This greenhouse includes solar powered vents and a heater, so it can be used all year long for various school plant-related projects.
