| MONTEREY - Highland Band students recently returned from a successful trip to Baltimore Md., where they competed in the "Music in the Parks Festival" held at Six Flags of America.
The band received a good rating and brought home the Esprit De Corps Award for the choral, string, or band ensemble that represented its school with the highest honor and respect while at the competition.
Students were given the opportunity to visit Baltimore's Inner harbor and absorb many cultural attractions.
Students explored the National Aquarium's exhibits, seeing many creatures of the deep including sharks, rays, dolphins, assorted fish, the new rainforest pavilion, and an exhibit representing the Australian Outback.
Band members then climbed into former World War II amphibious vehicles for a guided tour of downtown Baltimore. The "Duck Boats," as they are called, brought students down city streets and through the harbor itself on a whacky and fun history lesson.
