n This weekend marks the fifth annual quilt show and open house at Tender Heart Quilts on Route 42. On Friday and Saturday, the event will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a God Bless America quilt show, children's games and rides around the property on the Quilt Express train. The event continues on Sunday from 1-5 p.m. The quilt exhibit is part of the Buckboard quilt show, which is traveling the country to raise money for wounded soldiers. n The YMCA Millboro Child Care will hold a benefit bake and yard sale on Saturday, June 28, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., at the Millboro Volunteer Fire Department with delectable baked items and donated supplies from the Children, Families & Friends. Donations are accepted and appreciated. All proceeds will benefit Millboro resident and friend Tammy Vess as she continues her battle against cancer.

| n The first local farmers' market enjoyed a successful opening day last Saturday and will continue every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon, under the porch at Lickety Splits restaurant near the corner of Routes 39 West and 42 in Millboro Springs.
n The Millboro Preservation and Cultural Association will hold its next public meeting on Thursday, July 3, at 7 p.m., at the Ruritan building. The association is making plans to renovate the old Millboro school and seeks to raise $200,000 by July 8, when the Bath County Supervisors will decide on whether to award the project to this group of residents or a developer who has bid on the project. n Tim Altizer, the caretaker of Lyle Chapel Cemetery on Mill Creek has announced the cemetery is accepting donations for the upkeep of the cemetery. Anyone who has friends or relatives buried at Lyle Chapel and would like to make a donation should send it to: Lyle Chapel Cemetery, c/o Tim Altizer, 551 Kiser Lane, Millboro, Va. 24460.
n Plans are coming along nicely for the annual Millboro Volunteer Fire Association's Firemen's Carnival being held this year from Wednesday to Saturday, July 23-26, beginning at 7 p.m. each evening. The midway entertainment will be hosted by Buffalo Brothers Amusements. It's a wonderful time for fun games and rides, great food, and bingo every night. Ruritan Club members will again cook up their delicious barbecue chicken dinners on Saturday and have them ready for sale at 4 p.m. That's also the time for parade lineup at the elementary school. The parade will lead off at 5 p.m. and all entries are welcome.
