Fort Seybert HEA mill documentary featured
FORT SEYBERT - The West Virginia Humanities Council selected Fort Seybert Heritage Educational Association "Mills of Pendleton" documentary to feature in their summer publication People & Mountains. The Humanities Council has been very supportive in an advisory and funding capacity. They provided FSHEA with a 2007 mini-grant that funded the preliminary research for the original concept of Eston Teter talking about the Buckhorn/Cowger mill and several other mills. The Humanities Council awarded FSHEA a major grant which has enabled them to continue with the research. The cash match was provided by the Preservation Alliance of West Virginia. The project has tripled in scope.
The older people, who have memories of going to mills or having families come to their mills or stories passed down to them, say that they are glad for this opportunity to share their stories and how worthwhile the project is.
FSHEA has been granted more time to capture these stories. The younger generations will be the losers if they aren't passed down. Mills were the focus of the community. Anyone who has stories to pass on or photos to share, may contact Sandra Pope, Chairman/Project Manager, PO Box 321, Franklin, W.Va. 26807, e-mail LHPope@aol.com, or call (304) 249-5004.
Gerald Milnes of the Augusta Heritage Center at Davis & Elkins College is the video producer of the "Mills of Pendleton County."
