n Tonight (July 3) is the last public meeting of the Millboro Preservation and Cultural Association, at 7 p.m. at the Millboro Ruritan Club building, before this group of residents finds out whether renovation of the old school buildings will be awarded to them or to a developer who has bid on this project. The Bath County Board of Supervisors gave the association three months of come up with its own plan. The board will make its decision on Tuesday, July 8. More information about the association and its plans for the old school is available by calling co-chairman Jackie Plecker at (540) 996-4111.
n The Saturday Evening Showcase on July 5 at Douthat State Park features Theresa Lyons with contemporary gospel music in a free performance from 7-8 p.m. in the Amphitheater on Douthat Lake. For more details, call the park at (540) 862-8100, or e-mail Douthat@ dcr.virginia.gov.
n The new Bath County Farmers' Market had another busy morning last Saturday, complete with the "Market Millie" sign pointing people to the porch at Lickety Splits restaurant near the corner of Route 39 and Route 42 in Millboro Springs. Vendors will continue to bring their fresh produce, cheese, breads, herbs, homemade jams and jellies, and personal care items every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon, until October. n Anyone who has friends or relatives buried at Lyle Chapel on Mill Creek and would like to make a monetary donation for cemetery upkeep, please send it to: Lyle Chapel Cemetery, c/o caretaker Tim Altizer, 551 Kiser Lane, Millboro, Va. 24460.
n The annual Millboro Firemen's Carnival is just three weeks away and will be held July 23-26 in the industrial park. The fun event is hosted annually by the Millboro Volunteer Fire Association and begins at 7 p.m. each evening. The midway entertainment will be hosted by Buffalo Brothers Amusements. It's a wonderful time for fun games and rides, great food, and bingo under the tent every night. Ruritan Club members will again cook up their delicious barbecue chicken dinners on Saturday and have them ready for sale at 4 p.m. That's also the time for parade lineup at the elementary school. The parade will lead off at 5 p.m. and all entries are welcome.
