Having more guns just won't help the problems
Editor, The Recorder,

Jim Jacenich's musings on Second Amendment rights elicited similar responses from two of your readers who both quote some interesting Internet facts compiled by "author unknown" relating to gun control and government abuses. The Internet derives some of its considerable power because it's hard to argue with a nameless author. However, the more than 300,000 armed members of the doomed Polish resistance movement who fought with selfless valor resisting Nazi Germany's attempt to kill them would be surprised to learn from "author unknown" that they died because of gun control.

Every responsible American should have the right to own guns. But does that help keep the government in check? I hope this doesn't come as a shock to your correspondents, but they have more than we do! If the government decides one day to round up all auctioneers, or Realtors, or farmers, and Roy (Gutshall) and Iris (Hooke) and I have thoughtfully stockpiled fully automatic rifles, grenade launchers, artillery, a tactical (battlefield) nuclear weapon, and a surplus fighter jet in serviceable condition, it won't help! The government has three whole branches of the military with fighter jets and combat helicopters and in the event we beat them back, there are still, and I'm not making this up, 55 branches of the Air National Guard. Despite our best efforts, this will probably be a day that our life insurance agents look back on ruefully.

Wouldn't it be a more positive use of our energy to elect government leaders and appoint judges who know, understand, and respect our Constitution?
