Garden tour a group effort, president says
Editor, The Recorder,

McDowell was beautiful on Saturday, July 12. The houses and gardens were shining like the sun. On behalf of the Monterey Garden Club, I want to thank all those who helped make the Biennial House and Garden Tour successful. It took many, many people working very hard.

Lisa Munchel coordinated and led this project. Although Lisa was new to Highland when she began, she has made lots of friends and says that she had great fun getting to know the people and the community. The homeowners cleaned, polished, painted, mulched, planted and graciously welcomed tour guests into their lovely homes. The Mc- Dowell Presbyterian Church was "command central" where guests picked up tickets, information and lunches. It was a warm day and the ladies never let the lemonade run out. The Stonewall Market for making fresh sandwiches and delivering them. At the Heritage Center and Sugar Tree Country Store, guests learned the history of the area and bought those important souvenirs and gifts to take home and remember their happy day in the lovely village. Each and every person who did a small or large job contributed to a magnificent day and should be thanked for his or her effort.

Thanks to all the garden club members who did so much to make this day wonderful.

The club is very pleased to have raised money to support Highland County projects. The garden club sends local children to summer camp, plants flowers at the court house, supports the flower show at the county fair, and donates to service organizations in Highland County.

It is a privilege and a pleasure to live in Highland County.
Susan Blanchard, President
Monterey Garden Club
