Club holds a truly splendid day in McDowell

Ole Blue is the mountain retreat of Virginia Beach residents Thomas and Peggy Crooks. They bought the house in 1973 and renovated it. The house is called Ole Blue because it was and is painted blue. "We have made every effort to maintain the integrity of the house while making it a comfortable place to live," said the Crooks. Ole Blue was one of seven destinations on Saturday's Garden Club tour of McDowell. (Recorder photo by James Jacenich)
According to Lewis Shumate, the murals on the walls of the present day living room, past dining room, of Ole Blue were done by Sally Thompson, an itinerant artist. (Recorder photo by James Jacenich)

Sandy Johnston, who recently moved to Davis Run Road with her husband, Pete, took an opportunity to get to know her new home county by visiting some local homes during Saturday's Garden Club tour of McDowell. (Recorder photo by James Jacenich)
