Local artisans featured in ACN exhibition
WAYNESBORO - Creations from artists Tate Swecker and Lisa Jacenich will be featured in the Alleghany Craft Network Exhibition at The Artisans Center of Virginia. ACN received 77 entries for the exhibition and 33 were chosen by a jury selection. Two jewelry pieces made by Swecker and two pieces of fiber art by Jacenich were selected to appear at the event.
The public is invited to attend the opening reception on Friday, July 18 from 5-7 p.m. at The Artisans Center of Virginia. Pieces selected for the exhibition will be available for viewing at the center until Sept. 5.
The exhibition and an online resource directory are the culmination of the ACN project that was implemented two years ago as a result of a grant allocated by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development. The goal of the project is to catalogue artisans and venues that sell locally produced fine craft in the nine county area of Virginia identified as the Alleghany Highlands region. This special juried exhibition serves as the vehicle that will showcase the rich and abundant talent that exists in the nine western border counties running from Roanoke to Rockingham.
ACV executive director Michael Dowell says, "Virginia's craft talent is as impressive as any found in the United States with many artisans enjoying national reputations. Our exhibition will show all who view it that quality craft is not a matter of reputation or exclusivity to any one region, but rather of a strong commitment and skills perfected over years of work to make the finest product possible."
ACV is a non-profit, visual arts organization representing Virginia crafts through exhibition, education and retail opportunities. The Artisans Center of Virginia is located at Willow Oak Plaza, 801 West Broad Street, exit 94 - Interstate 64, in Waynesboro.
