USDA Farm Service Agency now accepting county committee member nominations
LEXINGTON - The USDA Farm Service Agency office serving Rockbridge, Alleghany, and Bath Counties, reminds agricultural producers that they can now nominate eligible candidates to serve on the Rockbridge/Alleghany/ Bath FSA County Committee. The nomination period continues through Aug. 1.
Rockbridge/Alleghany/Bath County will be holding an election in Local Administrative Areas one and two. LAA 1 is currently represented by J. Reid Mackey and consists of the Northeast section of Rockbridge County (South River and part of the Walkers Creek Magisterial Districts). LAA 2 is currently represented by Wayne L. Hickman and consists of the Southeast section of Rockbridge County (Natural Bridge and part of the Buffalo Magisterial Districts).
All nomination forms must be received in the Rockbridge/Alleghany/ Bath County FSA Office or postmarked by Aug. 1. Ballots will be mailed to all eligible voters by Nov. 3 and must be returned to the FSA office or postmarked by Dec. 1. Elected committee members and alternates take office on Jan. 1.
To hold office as an FSA County Committee member, a person must meet the basic eligibility requirements. People uncertain about their eligibility to vote in the FSA County Committee election or hold office as a committee member should contact their local FSA office.Affirmation of eligibility to vote must be determined in order for a vote to count in an election.
FSA County Committees oversee local FSA operations. They make decisions on commodity price support payments and eligibility, conservation programs, disaster assistance and other agricultural issues. Established in 1936, the County Committee system works to make federal agricultural programs serve the needs of local producers. Every committee has three to five elected members. More than 8,000 County Committee members serve in more than 2,300 offices nationwide.
