More Chargers turn out for cross country By Geoff Cox • Staff Writer
 | | Representing Bath County as members of the 2008 BCHS cross country team are (l-r) Andrew Elazon, Remington Ryder, Jamin Cook, Jacob Ingram, Andrew LAcks, Emily Plecker, Ian Walker, Victoria Horne, Zach Horne, Shelby Turner, and West Reddington. |
| WARM SPRINGS — "I've got 11 this year," said Charger cross county coach Lisa Hamilton happily. Last year Hamilton's team bounced between five and seven boys' and had one girl the whole season, senior Victoria Horne.
This year the Bath boys' team numbers eight and Horne has two teammates to run with, seniors Shelby Turner and Emily Plecker.
Plecker returns after a year hiatus and should do more than keep Horne company. Turner is a first timer and Hamilton says she's a natural.
"I think she'll do well in the girls' competition," Hamilton said.
The only Charger to make regionals, Alex Haney, graduated last year but the Charger boys bring back experience from a squad that consistently finished atop the district meets until the final one that counted.
Hamilton expects junior Ian Walker to pace the squad.
"I look for Ian to be one of my top runners with either Remy (Ryder) or Andrew (Lacks) a tight second," she explained. Both Ryder and Lacks are veteran juniors as is junior Zach Horne. Jacob Ingram, also a junior rounds out the varsity squad.
The Chargers hosted a Pioneer District meet at Hidden Valley Wednesday. Results were unavailable by press time. Their next meet is Wednesday at Buffalo Gap. All meets start at 5 p.m.
