 | | Roland P. Sharp, at age 67, during the year the osteopathic medical school in Lewisburg, W.Va., enrolled its first students. |
| FROST, W.Va. — The astold to autobiography of one of Pocahontas County's most beloved citizens is being published and will be released this month.
A lengthy collaboration between Dr. Roland Sharp and Pocahontas Communications Cooperative has resulted in a 272-page book with 33 photos.
His story starts in 1907 at his home place in Frost, Pocahontas County, and covers his childhood, high school years, one-room school teaching, medical school, doctoring in the coal fields, returning to Green Bank to practice, founding the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, and his later years back home at Frost. The book's subtitle is "Memories of a Life Well Lived."
In addition to telling his life story, Sharp talks about medicine yesterday and today, comparing the more personal touch of a generation ago with the bureaucracy and greed he sees all too often today.
"Roland Sharp: Country Doctor," will go on sale Saturday, Sept. 27, at 10 a.m. at the Opera House in Marlinton. Sharp will be on hand to autograph copies of the book. For this weekend there will be a special prepublication only price. For more information about the book, call 800-297-2346 or e-mail gkamr@ frontiernet.net
