Drugs, guns, cash seized in Bath County

MILLBORO -- Several search warrants executed by the Alleghany Highlands Drug Task Force, Bath County Deputies, and the Alleghany County Sheriff's Office Tactical Team, in Bath County on Sept. 15, led to the seizure of a quantity of drugs, weapons and money.

A search warrant was executed at 336 Lower Yard Road, in Millboro, in which several firearms were seized, along with drug paraphernalia. A second search warrant was executed at 307 Forbes Hollow Road, also in the Millboro area, where several firearms, a quantity of drugs, cash, and drug paraphernalia was seized.

On the afternoon of Sept. 17, Major Richard D. Chestnut, of the Bath County Sheriff's Office, and Trooper T.A. May, Virginia State Police, went to a residence at 4395 Pig Run Road, Millboro, to serve an arrest warrant. In the course of their visit to the residence, they discovered what appeared to be several marijuana plants growing near the back steps of the residence. A search warrant was obtained and executed by the Alleghany Highlands Drug Task Force, and a quantity of drugs and drug paraphernalia was seized.

Major Richard D. Chestnut, the Bath County Sheriff's Office
Heath W. Bunch, who resided at this address, was arrested on a fugitive warrant from Kentucky. He was transported to the Alleghany Regional Jail in Covington, where he awaits extradition to Kentucky.

All three incidents are still under investigation, pending laboratory analysis and indictment by the next grand jury.

The Alleghany Highlands Drug Task Force consists of officers from the Alleghany County Sheriff's Office, Bath County Sheriff's Office, Highland County Sheriff's Office, Covington Police Department, and the Virginia State Police.
