JV Chargers lose opener

Making the most out of a fumbled snap Charger Xavier Smothers catches a two-point pass from holder Andrew Hobbs last Thursday in the JV Chargers' season opening loss to the Mounties.
LOW MOOR — JV Charger quarterback Raymond Miller scored on a keeper and Xavier Smothers caught the two-point conversion to pull the Chargers within six-points of the homestanding Mounties 14-8, but Alleghany owned the rest of the game and took a dominating 52-8 win last Thursday evening.

"You have ninth and tenth graders four games into the season against eight and ninth graders in their first game," said coach Robert Plecker, "What do you expect. But we'll play them."

The JV Chargers (0-1) next contest is Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Riverheads. Game time is 6:30.
