| WARM SPRINGS — The Bath County High School marching band competed at the Lynchburg Classic, Saturday, Sept. 27.
Though band members come from a single A school, the high band numbers placed the band in the triple A class. They competed against Brookeville High School and Staunton River High School, each totaling more than 1,000 students enrolled in grades nine through 12.
The band, as a whole, had an outstanding performance. Color guard and percussion both took first-place trophies in their class. Color guard took first place overall out of 12 bands and percussion took second. They also received first-place general effect, second-place marching, and second-place music.
Drum major, Laura Schneider, received first-place in her class, as well as first-place overall in the competition.
The band's high ranking in each individual caption placed them first in their class. To compete against bands from schools with a population more than three times the size of BCHS and come out on top is an achievement far greater than anyone expected.
The BCHS Band will travel to the Parade of Champions at James Madison University on Oct. 18.
