Highland denied district wins

BUENA VISTA —The Highland Rams were hosted and toasted by the Parry McCluer Fighting Blues last Thursday evening in three sets, 7-25, 12-25, and 9-25.

"The score tells the story," said Ram coach Margie Swanger.

Ram Tracy Chapman tallied four service points for the game.

doubleheader

NEW CASTLE — Continuing a long road spell by playing a weekend doubleheader the Highland Rams travelled to Craig County and lost in two matches in four sets, 13-25, 5-25, and 11-25, 12-25.

"In the second set they came alive a little more," Swanger said of her squad. "Probably Tracy's (Chapman) best match all year," Swanger added. "She was all over the court and Emily Wagner also played very well." denied district wins

Highland @ James River

BUCHANAN — Falling behind early the Highland Rams lost to the James River Knights in straight sets 2-25, 10-25, and 16-25 Tuesday evening.

"They finally settled down the second and third matches," said Swanger.

Janna Folks paced the Rams behind the line with seven service points while teammate Emily Wagner recorded a team-high four kills at the net.

"We definitely played a lot better last night," Swanger assessed. "Finally playing as a team again."

Highland (0-13) continues the season tonight with a game at Bath. Their next home game is Thursday, Oct. 16, against Covington (Parents' night).

Middle School action: The Rockbridge Rebels rolled into Highland and made quick work of the Rams in straight sets 25-5 and 25-5 Monday night in Monterey.

Ram Becca Landrum tallied one ace to lead Highland 0-3).
