HOT SPRINGS —The Bath County High School Golf team met at the Upper Cascades Sunday to hand out recognition hardware for the 2008 season.

A crowd of family and friends attended as head coach Terry Bradley recognized the contributions of the entire team, along with the efforts of The Homestead staff and golf professionals, and assistant head coach Wade Ryder.

Alex Fry earned the Sam Snead Award as the most outstanding player of the year by virtue of his individual championship in the Pioneer District.

Drew Newmarker garnered the leadership award as the top seeded player, sportsmanship, and low stroke average on the team.

Walker Ryder was named most improved player of the year.

Mason Ailstock and Ryan Schneider received their varsity letters and plaques while eighth-graders Alex Lindsay and Tanner Lacks were also recognized for their efforts.

Fry, Newmarker, Ryder, and Ailstock advanced to regional competition this year giving coach Bradley high hopes of winning a district team title in the one sport that has so far escaped him, possibly next year.

"We had a good year, and if our guys make a commitment during the off-season, next year could be even better. We had chicken this year ... next year I hope we are serving steak!" he said.
