The Virginia X-Country Racing Series recently held its awards banquet on Saturday, Jan. 10, in Richmond, for the 2008 racing season. VXCS is the only AMA sanctioned state championship off-road series for bikes and quads. A cross country meet is conducted over a course that may include roads, trails, footpaths, up and down hills, motocross tracks, or any type of terrain which can be negotiated by a motorcycle. Three local riders earned podium spots at this year's awards banquet. Jess Pritt, son of Kenny and Shannon Pritt, earned a third place overall in the AA class. This class is for expert riders. Jonathan Williams, son of Gilbert and Debbie Williams earned a fourth place overall in the 250 C class. This is the largest and most competitive class of the series. Steven Kernan, son of Frank Kernan earned a second-place overall in the 250 B division. All three of these riders along with several others from Bath County who also participate in this racing series are looking forward to the first race of the 2009 series on March 29 in Colonial Beach.
