Sheriff Herbert R. Lightner has been elected as chairman of the Board at the Central Criminal Justice Training Academy in Weyers Cave. Central Shenandoah Criminal Justice Training Academy is located beside Blue Ridge Community College. The academy is responsible for training thousands of police officers, corrections officers, dispatchers and offers in-service and specialty training for 59 member agencies. The academy has a nearly $2 million annual budget, 11 full-time employees, all in an $8 million state of the art facility. The member agency also has hundreds of instructors who contribute to the training on a sign up list according to their specialty. The academy also offers preemployment training at a cost to the applicant. |
