Webb to speak on wind energy at garden club meeting

MONTEREY — Rick Webb, a Highland County resident and expert on wind energy development, will make a presentation on "Industrial Wind Energy on Virginia's Mountain Ridges," at the February meeting of the Hot Springs Garden Club.

Webb, a senior scientist with the Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Virginia, has studied environmental issues associated with energy development in the Appalachian region since the 1970s. His work on wind energy began in 2003.

In 2006 he was appointed to

National Academies Committee on Environmental Impacts of Wind Projects. Previously he worked as a co-author of a landscape classification system for sighting wind projects in Virginia. He currently maintains the Virginia Wind website www.VaWind.org.

The Hot Springs Garden Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, at Warm Springs Presbyterian Church. The public is invited.
