Monterey Town Council
• At town council's meeting last Thursday, Oct. 1, Mayor Janice Warner said the wastewater treatment plant upgrade was ahead of schedule. Warner repeated that the best site for the town hill water tank appeared to be at the county landfill. • Councilman Don Dowdy said Charles Smith will soon submit an estimate on the cost of reinforcing the bank along Strait Creek on Mill Alley. • Warner said a new computer program being installed in the town office would give the town the ability to do taxes "in house," saving the town time and money. She noted tax tickets for this year should be coming out soon. "We are ahead of where we were last year at this time," she said. • Council gave $200 to the Highland County Public Schools sixth-grade class in support of a project to raise trout in an aquarium for eventual release to streams. • Council approved a donation of $200 to the Highland County FFA to support sending FFA members to the FFA national convention in Indianapolis, Ind. • Council approved loaning the town truck to the Highland County Chamber of Commerce to pick up trash during the Hands and Harvest festival. • Next council meeting is 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5 at the Highland County Public Library. |
