      WARRENTON — Pioneer District Cross Country Champions Matt Persinger of Bath and Highland Ram Hayley Billingsley capped successful junior campaigns on the course at the State Group A finals in Great Meadows Saturday. Persinger, in his first season running, medaled with an 11th place finish while Billingsley placed 25th.

      WARM SPRINGS — Bath senior quarterback Michael Robertson ran for two seven-yard scores and threw touchdown strikes to Dillon Fry (57 yards) and Dana Richmond (54 yards) as the Bath County Chargers advanced to the Region C semifinals with a 48-7 victory over the Narrows Green Wave Friday night.

      Two former Bath County High School football standouts are playing college football this fall at two Virginia colleges. In Lynchburg, Tommy Shaver and the Liberty University football team rolled past Gardner-Webb 51-28 in Big South action last week. Shaver, a redshirt sophomore tight end, had his first career touchdown catch of 5 yards in the second quarter of the contest.

Chargers must tame Mustangs to move on
      Football is known as a game of inches and during the last Bath/ Eastern Montgomery battle in the 2009 season-opener, many yards were determined by a few. The well-prepared Mustang offense made one big play after another over the Chargers en route to a 52-27 blowout in Elliston.

Kober to be inducted to U.S. Ski, Snowboard Hall of Fame
      ISHPEMING, Mich.— Bath County's own Sepp Kober is one of eight inductees in the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame. Three adaptive skiers head up the largest class of inductees to enter since 1984 — Jack Benedick, Chris Waddell and Sarah Will are the first adaptive skiers to enter the Hall of Fame since the late Diana Golden was honored in 1997.
