Millboro Happenings
• The Millboro Preservation and Cultural Association has announced a slight change of plans for the Valentine’s dinner fund-raiser. It will be held on Saturday, Feb. 20, but reservations need to be called in a week earlier, by Feb. 13, so an attendance count can be established. For reservations and cost, call (540) 997-0525 or (540) 996- 4111. The association also plans a yard sale June 26, at the old school. Anyone who has items to donate, or who needs them picked up, can call Gary Smith, (540) 997-5626, Denny and Stephanie Forbes, (540) 997- 5318, or Jackie Plecker, (540) 996-4111.
The AWANA program for youngsters continues each Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church on Crooked Spur Road, with games and Bible study time from 6:30-8:10 p.m. The program is designed for children from 3 years old to sixth grade. For details, call program commander Monica Liptrap at (540) 997-1015.
More snow! And of course, Punxsutawney Phil has forecast six more weeks of winter. Has the little groundhog ever not given that same forecast at the beginning of February? I wonder if it’s time to retire him and find a more encouraging prognosticator in the animal kingdom. Well, the weather is making our libraries popular places to stock up on reading and video materials in between the white stuff coming down. But babies usually have their own arrival time, and we welcome Keanan Brodey Combs, who arrived hale and hearty on Jan. 30 dur- ing last weekend’s snowstorm, after transportation to the hospital in Fishersville via family vehicle and then rescue squad.
