This will be an exciting year featuring three different programs for interested families to choose: Drama Camp — June 28-July 3; Arts Camp — July 5-9; and a Strings Program in the mornings of each of the two weeks.

Curious about what it’s like to perform on stage? Interested in making costumes and painting a set? Then Drama Camp is for you. The two-act musical this year is based on the stories of the Arabian Nights and William Shakespeare’s comedy Twelfth Night. During the one-week program, campers will learn the songs, dances and words to perform, while creating sets and costumes. You can explore every aspect of theatre.

“Back to the ‘60s” is where students are headed during the second one-week camp. Learn to dance like your grandparents did with the Monkey, Pony and Hand Jive. There will be acting classes and a variety of art projects.

Start learning to play a stringed instrument by signing up for the twoweek strings program. Gretta Sandberg, who retired in Highland County after a career directing the string orchestras at McLean High School in Northern Virginia, will be the instructor.

This is a great opportunity for grandparents to invite the grandchildren to spend a week to meet new friends. About 40 percent of the campers come from out of town.

All three programs are held at Highland Elementary School. You can pick up more information at the Highland County Public Library, or Highland High School and Highland Elementary School offices, or by calling Caroline Smith at (540) 499-2879.
