Surprise gift wows officials

New Highlander donates to sheriff’s office, schools

MONTEREY — Highland County Board of Supervisors chair David Blanchard Wednesday night asked county administrator Roberta Lambert to announce a “pleasant surprise” — a donation of $10,000 to the county from William A. Rule Jr. of Monterey, a retired businessman. Rule stipulated the money be used for the schools and the sheriff’s department.
