Full obituary for John M. Lohr
MONTEREY — John Merriman Lohr, 67, of Monterey, passed away Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012 at his home.
He was born May 15, 1945 in Dayton, Ohio, a son of the late Ralph Revere and Nancy Jane Light Lohr.
Mr. Lohr was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Viet Nam. He was a graduate of Randolph-Macon College and Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary. In addition to his private law practice, John also served as Highland County’s Commonwealth’s Attorney for 32 years. He was a Past Master of Highland Masonic Lodge No. 110 AF & AM, and a past member of the Monterey Lions Club. He was an avid bowler on the Highland League. He and his wife loved to travel, and he enjoyed model trains and searching for trains during his travels.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Karen Ann Lohr; two daughters, Barbara Mahaffey and husband Darren of Monterey and Janelle Lohr of Harrisonburg; two sons, James Lohr and Robert Lohr, both of Monterey; grandson, Trace Triplett; granddaughter, Kahlen Mahaffey; three sisters, Dorcas Lohr-Myers and husband Clair of Waynesboro, Nina Lohr-Valdez and husband, Michael of Albuquerque, N.M., and Jane Lohr-Pearson and husband Tom of Plainsboro, N.J; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 11, with Masonic Rites in the Monterey Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
