County lifts boil water directive in McDowell
Highland County officials issued the following notice at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19:
NOTICE TO MCDOWELL WATER SYSTEM CUSTOMERS
FROM THE HIGHLAND COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
Effective November 19, the Health Department has authorized the county
to remove the “Boil your tap water” requirement and you may resume full usage
of your tap water for drinking and cooking. Well #3 which has elevated levels of
Coliform bacteria and E. coli has been taken offline and the system is currently
able to maintain adequate water levels using Well #2 only. The county is working
with the Health Department and the engineering firm Mattern & Craig to develop
a new well to replace Well #3.
