Burn ban now in effect for Highland, burn pit closed

MONTEREY — Dry and windy conditions have caused wildfires around Virginia, but so far, Highland has only seen creeks and wells dry up.

The Highland County supervisors instituted a 30-day burn ban for the county, effective Nov. 15. The burn ban prohibits all fires, including those in containers.

“I just don’t want any outside burning right now because it’s the sparks that can get out,” said chair David Blanchard. “No outside fires.”
