Flood waters damage, close roadsFree Access

BACK CREEK — Route 600 going toward Bath County from Highland is closed due to heavy rains Sunday evening swelling the waters along Back Creek.
Route 84 west from Highland is also closed, though most of the damage is on the West Virginia side of the line. Crews are working to clean up the mess.
A detour using Route 39 has been established.
Per the Pocahontas County transportation headquarters, WV Route 84 is still currently closed to traffic, and crews are on site working diligently to address the damage.
As for traffic coming from Virginia into Pocahontas, travelers should use Route 39 at Warm Springs to get to the Minnehaha Springs W.Va., which is the first junction of U.S. 92 in Pocahontas County, or can lead travelers to the WV 28 junction at Huntersville. Both will routes lead Dunmore, Cass, Green Bank areas.
At Warm Springs, U.S. 220 leads to Monterey, which junctions with U.S. 250 into West Virginia. At the town of Bartow in Pocahontas, U.S. 250 junctions again with WV 92 and 28 and leads south to Green Bank, Cass, Dunmore areas.
For larger truck traffic, use U.S. 220.
For normal passenger vehicles that end up on Route 84, the best detour is to go north on Route 640 (Meadowdale Road) in Mill Gap area. This route leads to Hightown, and junctions with U.S. 250. While this is a beautiful country drive, it’s not a road that 18-wheelers would navigate easily.
If travelers are coming from I-64 and the southeast on U.S. 220, they need to use Route 39 or stay on U.S. 220 to U.S. 250.
In Pocahontas County, routes WV39, WV28, US250 and WV92 are all open and passable.
