RAPHINE — Hazel Bell Malcolm, 85, of Raphine, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013 at her home.

She was born May 28, 1927 in Cherry Grove, W.Va., a daughter of the late Archie Ray and Suttie Bennett Arbogast.

Mrs. Malcolm was a homemaker who very much enjoyed her family, most especially caring for her grandchildren. Additionally, she enjoyed time spent listening to gospel, bluegrass, and country music, as well as talking books. 

She was predeceased by her husband, Olen Faircloth Malcolm; son, Arnold Malcolm; four grandchildren, Ray Malcolm, Martha Jane Puffenbarger, Jerry Malcolm and Junior Puffenbarger; brother, Roy Arbogast; and two sisters, Clara White and Zetta Bennett.

She is survived by two daughters, Patsy Malcolm of Churchville and Susie Seal and husband, Brian of West Augusta; four sons, James Malcolm of Cherry Grove, W.Va., Bobby Malcolm of Raphine, Albert “Shorty” Malcolm of Monterey and Delbert Malcolm and wife, Lori of Raphine; special granddaughter, Nancy Smith of Steeles Tavern, who was raised as a daughter; 20 additional grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell with the Rev. Todd Yoder officiating.

Burial will follow in Clover Creek Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brian Seal, Randall Roadcap, Jimmy Botkin, Christopher Puffenbarger, Jay Price, and D.J. Newlen.

Mrs. Malcolm’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. 

The family will receive friends from the hours of 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
